Project Overview and Goals

"Go, VT!" is an app hypothetically designed by the Vermont State Government to provide free and interactive educational experiences for young children. The app aims to bring a local perspective to learning and offers features for parents, teachers, and local businesses. By combining state and local resources, "Go, VT!" aims to provide equal learning opportunities and support rural school districts while focusing on environmentalism and sustainability.

Problem Statement and Challenges

"Go, VT!" is an app designed to address the lack of access to educational opportunities and resources in rural communities in Vermont. The app aims to provide positive experiences while covering serious topics and accommodating children of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles. It offers accessibility features, verified content, data privacy, and equal access for all users. The goal is to create an open, trustworthy, and accessible learning tool for young learners throughout the state.

Research

To ensure a smooth interactive experience, assumptions are made about users of the “Go, VT!” app, including their age range, the presence of an active parent/guardian, residency in Vermont, interest in mobile games, and regular access to WiFi. Initial research involves surveys and interviews, targeting Vermont residents who are parents of young children or have experience working with children.

The survey can be viewed here. Some of its results are shown below.

User Personas, User Journey Map, and User Flows

I created three user personas for this project, representing a variety of potential users.

To compliment each persona, I made a user flow of the actions they might take within the app as well.

Finally, I created a journey map to represent user persona, Mike, and how he might feel about the app before download, during and after use.

Information Architecture

Mapping out what I wanted the app to include helped me gain a better understanding of the content and layout of the app, making continuity, layout, and design much easier to develop.
